7/27/2022 Should I repair or replace my fridge? As far as broken appliances go, nothing can be worse than having a fridge full of food suddenly stop cooling in the middle of the summer. This can bring up all sorts of questions- How soon can someone come out to fix it? How expensive will it be? Should I just replace it instead?
We treat no cooling situations as a top priority and can often come out either the same day or early the next day (depending on your location). Common, easily-fixed and relatively inexpensive (compared to the cost of a new fridge) symptoms that can cause a fridge not to cool are: frost on the back wall of the freezer section, a short hum and then a click coming from the back of the machine, and a freezer compartment that cools fine but a warm fridge compartment, especially if there's any frost build-up in the freezer. If both compartments are warm, the lights/control panel is on, you hear fans running and you can hear a humming from the back of the machine, chances are good that you have a sealed system failure. Sealed system failures are expensive repairs and often do not make sense financially to undertake. Replacement is almost always recommended. Don't hesitate to reach out with any fridge problems- we are more than happy to help! Unfortunately we do not work on air conditioners due to the cost of repair- the service call charge plus the cost of parts is often more than the cost of a new unit. We also do not do any kind of sealed system work (meaning the refrigeration system, e.g. a failing compressor, leaks in the evaporator coils), which can be a common cause of a no cool situation. As much as we would love to repair everything, sometimes it just doesn't make sense financially.
