Is your GE dishwasher not starting up or filling with water after hitting the start button and closing the door? Is the orange light on the front of the machine flashing? This is a common problem and, unfortunately, sometimes a costly repair.
The problem is that the control board isn't sensing that the door is closed. This could be something as simple and inexpensive as a failed door latch or it could be pointing towards an issue with the control board- a much more expensive repair. In our and many other technician's experience with GE dishwashers, one can never just replace the control board for a long-term repair. The user interface board as well as the wire harness connecting the two should also be replaced at the same time. For whatever reason, GE dishwashers will most likely fail again if both boards are not replaced. This cost of the boards plus the service call charge and labor is usually around $400, sometimes more depending on how hard it is to pull the dishwasher out of the cabinet. As much as we love to fix appliances and keep them out of landfills, we typically do not recommend to go through with this repair, as one can buy a new dishwasher for that amount. If you would like us to come out and diagnose the issue (hopefully it's just the door latch!), give us a call at 603-831-2658 or, if you're in our service area, book online on our homepage. Yet another extremely common issue with Samsung French Door fridges is the ice maker in the fridge compartment not working or freezing up. Like the water under the crisper drawers issue, this is due to a poorly-engineered design. Samsung has come out with many ''fixes'' for this issue over the years, and continue to come out with ''fixes'' with, in our experience, usually only work about 60-70 percent of the time.
Along with the risk of the repair not working out in the long-term, the cost of the Samsung ice maker kit with installation is normally around $400. That's a lot of money for ice! We typically do not recommend going through with the ''fix'', as 30-40 percent of the time the problem will come back six months or so later. Give us a call at 603-831-2658 or email us at [email protected] for more information, we'll be happy to help! Oh Samsung fridges.....a very common call for us is the complaint of water under the crisper drawers coupled with fan or clunking noises in the fridge compartment and even a warm fridge compartment. This is a major design flaw in Samsung fridges and, in some cases, can be near impossible to repair. Samsung has come out with many ''fixes'' over the years for this problem, yet, in our experience, the ''fixes'' only work about 60-70 percent of the time.
The repair can also be expensive, usually around $300 or more, as work needs to be done not only in the fridge compartment but also in the machine compartment at the back of the fridge. Because this problem is the result of poor engineering, we do not offer any guarantees or warranties on any work done. This can be a gamble because, as stated above, the official Samsung ''fix'' doesn't always work. We typically do not recommend going through with the repair. Give us a call at 603-831-2658 or send us an email at [email protected] if you would like some more information and we'll be happy to help! 4/1/2022 LG Fridge Not Cooling?LG fridges have been plagued with bad compressors for many years, often resulting in a warm fridge and freezer compartment. LG actually settled a class action lawsuit in 2020 for this very problem. Unfortunately, it looks like the deadline to file a claim has passed, even though some recent LG fridges (the most recent one we ran into was manufactured in 2018) continue to have this problem.
If the lights still come on in the fridge/freezer compartment and you can hear the fans and compressor (a humming sound at the back of the fridge) running but your LG fridge isn't cooling in both compartments, you have a sealed system failure. The sealed system is the refrigeration system, and, in the case of LG fridges, the compressor has most likely failed. We do not do sealed system work as it is labor-intensive and not very cost effective for the vast majority of fridges. If you're unsure of whether you have a sealed system failure or not, or want to try to get some money from LG and need documentation of the problem from a technician, we can definitely help! Give us a call at 603-831-2658 or, if you're in our service area, book an appointment online on our homepage. One of the most common reasons for poor washing in a 5- to 10-year-old Whirlpool-built dishwasher (which includes Maytag, Amana, and KitchenAid) is a failed wash pump/circulation pump. This can be an expensive repair, as the part alone costs between $200-250. With the service call and labor, depending on how difficult it is to pull the dishwasher out of the cabinet, the repair could be in the ballpark of $350-400.
Dishwashers today are unfortunately becoming more and more of a throwaway appliance due to the cost of parts, the cost of new dishwashers, and the often extra labor to uninstall and then reinstall the dishwasher after the repair has been made. Repairs are usually either just the service call charge or close to (and sometimes even exceeding) the cost of a new machine, very little in between. Give us a call at 603-831-2658 or send us an email at [email protected] if you would like some advice regarding your specific dishwasher and whether you should repair it vs. replace it, free of charge. |
